Frequently Asked Questions

  • To keep things as simple and efficient as possible, we’re focusing solely on PLA (polylactic acid). We may consider other materials in the future, so stay tuned.

  • Our mission is to turn your printing waste into new filament, which will then be available for sale. If you register we will keep track of your donations and you’ll get rewards or credits in the future. We’re perfecting the process now using your generous donations, so keep it coming and check back for updates as we reduce plastic waste together!

  • Start saving your PLA waste and empty spools. Register with us and note your ID number. When you have a good collection, write that number on the box and mail it to us, or drop it off at our Ann Arbor, Michigan location (coming soon).

  • There are many variants of PLA and it’s impossible to know exactly what’s in them, but in general, anything with PLA in the name is fine (PLA+, glossy, matte, silk, any color). However, additives like wood, carbon fiber or glow-in-the-dark are NOT ACCEPTED. If you’re not sure, just contact us first to ask, or leave a note in the container to let us know what’s there.

  • No, we can take any shape or size of waste, from huge prints to tiny support pieces, or unwanted filament still on the roll. Just make sure it’s free of any foreign materials like paint, glue, etc. and please make sure you don’t include any other types of plastic like PETG or ABS.

  • Not at this time. To keep things as efficient as possible, we need to pool together lots of waste and process it in large batches. By doing that, you get to be part of a team effort to reduce plastic waste. You'll even be able to see which batches you contributed to, and see your fellow donors on your account page. There are options out there for DIY filament recycling, if you choose to go that route.
